xlsx-Export for Workspace

Hello,

I searched the forum for similar topics but only found threads which were from at least 4 years ago and also without solution. As I have to export reports on regular basis, it would be more than helpful if the reports could be exported in xlsx-format. I think that many users would appreciate this feature, as Excel is still a standard tool.

Kind regards,

Patrick

Hi Patrick, not sure if this is still relevant, but the company I work for (Daexus) released an Adobe Analytics web data connector for Tableau. It's free and ultra-secure and supports scheduled refreshes like you mentioned but that feature is available in the paid version.

You can find more information on our website and I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have!

The CSV updates were delivered as part of the Apr MR. We are going to mark this as Delivered. If there are still open needs that require downloading to XLSX, please file a new idea with those details listed.

We are going to make an update to CSV downloads (and Copy/Paste from Workspace) to remove the thousands separator. We will continue to respect the decimal separator as defined in Components > Report Settings. In addition, the UI will continue to show the thousands separator.

Hi Brandon

I found out that I double-clicked on the wrong cell (one row too low). Should have double-clicked the empty cell to the left of the metrics to select everything. so all is fine with this now!

The missing metrics at the top seems odd (they should be there) - please submit an issue with Customer Care and we'll look into it.  I think the breakdown dimension is correct, but we can look into that as well.  Thanks again for the feedback.

Thank you for your reply Brandon - and for the tip about downloading an individual table! This is very useful.

One thing: I noticed that the csv does not contain a first row with the column headers (Metric names). Could this be added?

Strangly the table I exported contains a dimension breakdown (Referrer --> Entry Page) and the csv does contain one row for the broken down referrer where all metric headers are shown. And under that a row shows with the name of the breakdown dimension (Entry page) is shown --> see screenshot:

Looking forward to the changes you mention

This is great feedback - thank you again.  It sounds like removing the thousands separator on CSV download (but leaving the decimal point, if applicable), or providing an option to remove it on CSV download, would be a great win that would satisfy most of peoples' problems.  We will definitely look into doing this in the near future!

Unfortunately, there are many technical reasons why providing a scalable and maintainable XLSX export is difficult and a big lift.  We are still considering it for the future, though.  In the meantime, if you just want to download one table in CSV (as opposed to everything in the project), you can double-click the top-left cell of the table header (ie, above the dimension name), and it will select everything in the table.  You can then right-click > Download CSV from there.  We are also working on other features that hopefully should release next year that will make downloading CSV from an individual table even easier (and better).

I agree with the above - getting rid of the thousands separator (or offering a choice not to use it before exporting) and the conflict it causes will probably provide a fix.

Still I do not understand why it would be so much work to do a decent xlsx-export. The functionality has existed in Reports and Analytics for a long time. To me it is not so helpful to be able to export the whole WS report to CSV anyway, since there may be many different visualisations and tables there. The common usecase for me would be to export only a selected freeform (visualisation or table). Again, in the ideal case as I see it each individual freeform would be exported to a separate worksheet in the Excel export file.

Date format and especially thousand separator are the only issues I faced so far.

for the date format there is a company setting in Adobe Analytics ("company settings" -> "prefernces"). as far as I can see the csv export is already ISO 8601 (means "2018-11-27")

for the thousand separator, please just skip it!!! excel or any other tool can easly handle that itself, no need to have this in a CSV.

as a quick win, I think skipping the thousand separator would solve most of my cases. everything else as suggested above would be a nice "addon"
