Federated Audience Composition

Question

Federated Audience Composition was introduced during the latest Summit. This feature allows us to use the data that's in a warehouse (say for example) without bringing in into the Platform. The fundamental question is - doesn't the data need to be 'enabled to the Profile'? Can it be used without enabling to the Individual Profile?
