This questions appears in the Marketo Certification Guide http://pages2.marketo.com/rs/561-HYG-937/images/MCE-preparation-guide-2015-FINAL-5-7-15.pdf

6. How many lead records will exist when a person fills out the same Marketo form multiple times with the same email address?

A. One

B. Two

C. Multiple

D. Zero

I thought the answer was A. - but if so why do we need to de-duplicate or merge leads?

Bit of a brainteaser? Anyone?

Email address is the primary key within Marketo.

No deduplication is needed via forms.

There are other processes, such as manual lead creation, uploads/imports, and syncs from other systems that contain multiple records that can cause duplicates.

I re-read the question and the key phrase is ' fills out the form', so yes there will only be one record.

Duplicates come about through:

  • Manual input
  • Merge from SalesForce
  • Merge from MS Dynamics!

Thanks,
