Using Muchkin ID on Multiple Domains

Question:

Will the munchkin tracking code work on different sites?

For example, my company has 2 domains

  1. DomainA.com
  2. DomainB.com.

DomainB.com is a separate site for our blog. Will the munchkin code work on the 2nd site? I want to incorporate the 2nd site into my lead scoring measures.

Answer:

Munchkin CAN pass domains, however what it can not do is bring across information. Thus, if you have a domain of A, when a known lead passes out of domain A and into domain B, its activity will be tracked, however, it will be tracked anonymously. In addition, there will be no way to link the activity of a known lead in Domain A to the anonymous lead in Domain B, even though they're the same lead. The next step to tie the activity to one lead would be to do one or more of the following:

  1. Manually merge the separate anonymous leads
  2. Nurture the lead under each domain, send emails with tracked links to each domain, the activity will be tied together under that lead and automatically merged.

All it takes to be on LP is having some sort of awareness of the API, unfortunately. Anyway, they don't claim to be merging Munchkin sessions, so I'm not going to say they're falling short of their promises.  Got a demo set up w/them for next week and I'll let you know.

Thats strange because they are a Launchpoint Partner, but you are right they dont have anything on the site.

Checking their site, I don't see them offering anything for known Marketo leads. Not surprising because it's a totally separate platform indicating API (???) integration with Marketo (question marks because the volume of anonymous + known lead data can easily grow beyond what Marketo's API can handle).

Hmm... what's the 3rd party?

Sharing the session across registered domains is possible, but you won't find an internal (i.e. official) solution offered by Marketo.  Something we do when tweaking Munchkin, part of what I call the Munchkin Enhanced library (adds reliability as well).

I have looked everywhere for documentation on this for a previous migration, and have not found an internal solution, only 3rd party. Can you provide more info?

(It actually is possible if implemented by a fluent developer. But definitely not out-of-the-box.)

No this has not changed, you still have to cookie your emails with both domains to mesh profiles.

The munchkin code is a first party cookie, which means it does not share information across domains. Basically a lead will need to click on both domains to have their record merge their info from both domains.

Hi Raul,

Do you know if any edits made to Munchkin to allow tracking of multiple domains into the same profile? It is so common these days that companies have multiple sites hosted under different domains. Even GA allows it with some customization. I wonder if Marketo has made any modification to resolve multiple domain tracking issue.

Thanks,

Nilesh
