[CLOSED] - Linking Projects

This post has been closed as a duplicate. All votes have been moved to the original: PARENT/CHILD PROJECTS
Several workfront users have asked about linking projects in Workfront. For example, one project would be developing the theme for a series of other projects, and each of those other projects would be linked to the master project.

Hello - This URL PARENT/CHILD PROJECTS isn't working. I realize it's old, but I would love to know the resolution. We have several projects that aren't dependent on each other but are related to each other. I tried to look for Related Projects or Links, but was unable to find those sections / tabs in my Workfront.

It would be great to see even a progress of connected sub projects with Master project via cross project predecessors.

We have similar issues with this feature not being available. Currently we use Workfront PROGRAMS to link everything together but there is no intake form that allows the requester to essentially copy the standard details (which are the same across all requests - ie audience, event date, owner, etc) but allow for entering custom specs for each one. We currently use this intake form attached which is annoying because it's a separate attachment that gets into version control issues. Would be awesome to have something like this in workfront where you can select an EVENT MATERIALS master request - and from there, fire off sub-requests for a banner, an ad, an evite, and a brochure which all get nested under that master Request. the standard details would get copied over but they can submit the individual specs for this. Then the view in Workfront can serve as the checklist showing all the below. Would be also amazing to be able to edit the request details in line as you would an excel or google sheet. here is ours below. We are purposely not using issues on a project for this because we want everyone to enter requests (having 2 different ways of entering and finding requests confuses people).
This intake form we are using also allows one to glance quickly at all the requests at once, similar to a project list and serving as a checklist for what is happening. But the intake process going through the request queue doesn't allow for this given the repetitive custom forms needed.

PS: Can we combine the votes from these two requests?!

We'd definitely leverage this feature as well. Our programs are based on contracts and clients will often decide they want to add something that wasn't initially in scope, but their finance departments won't authorize change orders. We have to send a new contract for the additional ask, which is then considered a new program. It would be nice to have the ability to link the projects for reference since they don't necessarily depend on each other but are related.

I 100% support this effort and agree this is a much needed feature. We would definitely take advantage of it.

Similar to Brandon, we take in requests that can have numerous projects affiliated with it. We would like to be able to utilize one request to create many projects that may be associated with that one request.

We have the same issue. We had tackled it by having one master project with several sub projects broken out as tasks but then reporting off of those projects is a pain.

We were looking into Campaigns as the potential solution but the fact that campaigns cant technically close is problematic.

Master projects with linked projects would be ideal and the ability to make a copy of a custom form to attach to those sub projects as well

I agree with Nick, it would help in historical situations as well. Sometimes projects have cross use-cases and only being able to choose one Program/Portfolio really limits the way we can organize them for future reference.

We utilize portfolios, programs and naming conventions to help with the above however it seems that maybe a custom form field where the team member could input the prior project number at the project level may be helpful?

Sometimes our teams want to link past projects just as a reference without necessarily having them dependent on another object. The need is to have a historical reference of a prior deliverable.
