Email of Direct Reports Late Tasks to Managers Using $$USER Filter

Attempting to send a single report to all managers with their direct reports' overdue tasks using the Assigned to ManagerID = $$USERID as a filter. So far, tests have been unsuccessful. Is there a proper way to set up & send the report?

Unfortunately, wildcard filters like $$USER.ID aren't supported in email delivery of reports. This functionality has been asked for dating back years, but never made it to the roadmap.

The closest workaround I've come up with is to set up a recurring email in Outlook that prompts the recipients to click on a link to the report in the body of the email, so they view the report in browser only and the wildcard filtering is then applied.

That's really unfortunate it can't be done natively but I do love a good workaround. I'll search ideas and up vote or post my own. Thank you!
