Project Owner should be renamed to Project Manager

In standard project management methodologies, there is no project owner. There is a Project Sponsor & Project Manager.

The Project Manager is really the owner of the project.

Can you change the 'Project Owner' in all data fields including the project health panel - to Project Manager?

I'm sure most project managers would agree!

Thank you for the submission! We think this is a good enhancement to the Workfront platform overall and this product area in particular!

Workfront currently prioritizes large-scale, foundational enhancements such as the new Reporting experience and changes to the core data model, so this item does not fit in our near-term roadmap. As such, I am marking this as Declined now, but we'll keep this in our backlog for the improvements for this area so that we can revisit the decision in the future.

Because it is an issue for the Project initiators are the OWNERS who are ultimately responsible for the entirety of the project.

Is there solution to this issue?

This is an odd response.

On the sharing rights, the Project Owner is given "Manage" rights. The system's logic says they are the Manager of the Project.

Even if their title is not "Project Manager" by title - they are the default person given Manage rights. They are responsible for managing the schedule, completion, status, updates, condition, etc.

If nothing else - allow us to rename the field in the UI, please.

Thank you for submitting this request, voting for it, and sharing your use cases. We have reviewed the request and even though we understand it’s reasonable we will not change the name of the "Project Owner" field in Workfront at this time. We believe that users that might not be project managers can be responsible for and own a project. In this case, they can be designated as Project Owners. As a result, I will be marking this idea as "Not planned".

Thank you again for making your voice heard.

I am in agreement that we should have the ability to customize this naming convention to align with the terminology used w/in our own work environments. Project Owner, Project Manager, Product Manager, Team Lead -- whatever fits the description of the work you are managing and/ or responsible for.

I agree our Project Managers own the project and are responsible to ensure everything gets done - in meetings I have to say project owner AKA project manager, haha, it would be nice to just customize this.

Disagree! We have Project Owners that are responsible for the work to get done from request to completion. We also have Project Managers that "manage" that the work gets done in the project. The Project Manager is a "role" like any other task resource, but not an owner of the project.

Upvoted. Looks like this is well on the way to reaching 45 votes.

Yes, this would be very helpful. Perhaps this could be done in the TERMINOLOGY section of the layout template to allow local terms for these.

In all of our communication to users, we have to clarify to them that Project Owner = Project Manager and that Project Sponsor = Product Owner (which itself is not industry standard so it would be nice to customize the terminology).
