Append Mode is used to append the new metadata with the existing metadata in fields that contain multiple values. If you do not select this option, the new metadata replaces the existing metadata in the fields.

thank you.  when i typed "append mode" in the help window nothing came up so i appreciate the confirmation of what it does.
