There is a step by step tutorial for dispatcher configuration, you can follow this http://www.cqtutorial.com/courses/cq-admin/cq-admin-lessons/cq-dispatcher/cq-dispatcher-apache-set-up.

This configuration is for any cq5.x version. In addition you can find adobe documentation at http://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/dispatcher.html

There is a link specific to CQ5.4 version http://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/cq/5-4.html but all the links inside this redirects to common configuration and pages for cq5 which applies to all cq5.x version.
