Static to Editable template Migration

I am migrating from static templates to editable templates using AEM Modernization Tool but my static template code is in JSP. So, do I need to create a new code base for editable templates or is it compatible to JSP as well? Please guide me, how I can proceed on this.

Yes, the best practice would be to migrate from JSP based static templates to editable templates based on HTL.

The WCM Core Page component (latest version) should be your new base component.

But why will you need to keep jsp. The recommendation is to move to HTL
