Most effective way to check opt-in during journey

What is the most effective way to check if customer has adequate consents but during journey? Condition Node? What are your methods?

I will go for your consent fields (add it to the data source).

There is a possibility to use an audience but it comes with some risks:

evaluation in case consent data or criteria to create this audience is not streaming
performance: I noticed when using audience as condition in multiple journeys and big volume ( 3-5 M), they are some timeout errors.
