Activity count discrepancies between Dashboard, Summary and API responses

I have a query about counts as displayed in Marketo VS what is returned in API queries.

I am retrieving all activities between dates through the API. When I look at the Dashboard for the a program (example here) I see a donut chart that gives "Sent" totals. 

The summary says a different total:

 

 

Which matches my API retrieval:

 

My question is, which is the correct count? Is the dashboard grouping results together, if so how/what? Could any one help?

Have you checked your smart campaigns relating to program status updates? The donut chart appears to be referencing the number of emails sent, while the summary is referencing program statuses -- two different things. If there are filters in place preventing someone from running through the flow step to update their status to sent, that could be a cause for a discrepancy, and something you may want to check first.
