Best way to sync records to Marketo from SFDC without creating a duplicates issue

We are currently in between roles for a true MarOps professional (they start within a few weeks), but in the meantime, we've encountered a split in the road when it comes to syncing prospect records from SFDC to Marketo, without creating an influx in our duplicates queue.

An example: As we've been building out a Direct Mail program and campaigns to support it, we're starting to need to move more records over to Marketo for prospect activities. Obviously we don't want to sync them over unless we're sure we're not going to create a dupe.

The option we see as valid/safest right now is:

- Export the entire DB into an excel sheet and cross reference before we import via some algorithms

- Sync to Marketo on all records we find that are not already in Marketo with a bulk update of "sync to marketo = true"

Is there a smarter, better, easier way to do this?

You need to de-dupe the data before it goes over and its a task that nobody wants to do. SFDC has a de-dupe tool that you can access but it isnt brilliant.

The best way is through a data clean up project. I would export the data into Excel and run a data cleanse exercise get everything as you need it and upload it fresh. This is the best way to guarantee clean data unless you buy ringlead which is fantastic but not cheap.

Hi Rob,

It's definitely not a fun task, but one we believed would have what it took to accomplish what we're looking to do.

We've entertained ringlead, but also ran into the price tag issue. I appreciate your thoughts on this!
