Don't strip comments to target Outlook in HTML email

I'm using comments to target Outlook in my HTML emails, for example: <!--[if mso]>

Marketo strips all comments from the HTML in email templates.
I don't understand why, when comments are so integral to good responsive design in Outlook. Maybe this is a feature they could work out in the future?

An example of the usefulness of mso targeting:

It seems the comments aren't being totally stripped, but now they're being slightly rewritten. I've tried to find a solution - mainly to be able to include stig's bulletbroof buttons - but the closest I've been able to get still won't work on outlook.com.

That being said, if you have done testing and have no recipients using outlook.com, this solution might work for you:

This has completely broken some of our email compatibility since moving over to marketo. Please don't strip this out.
