Existing SFDC data vs self-reported submission form data

When do you choose to override SFDC demographic data for a lead that already exists with new data that that lead self reports on a submission form? Is there a general rule for this or is it on a case-by-case basis? Or do you have a way of showing both "here's the email we had listed for this lead and here is the email that they self-reported" in their SFDC record?

Unless you have already setup field blocking in Marketo OR validation in SFDC, the lead will overwrite their data automatically as long as the email addresses match.

Hi Candace,

In situations like this (and I'm assuming your need to compare the two is because Salesforce is always the System of Record), what I've done is blocked the ability for updates to come from things like forms and record the user's entered email address into an alternate field that can then be sent to SFDC for comparison and update after human review. I have a brief proof of concept here, but in this case it was for making sure names didn't change (and cascade down to other objects.)
