How to create the field on both the Contact and Lead objects in Salesforce

We're having issue with creating fields on both contact and lead objects in salesforce.  In marketo we're seeing two fields-- one with (L) and one with (C).

Can anyone provide specific instruction on how to set this up so that we have one field in marketo that is mapped to both Lead and Contact?

Thank you!

Hi Alexis,

Just create the field in lead and contact with the exact same field label and field name.

You should also go to lead fields, click the "map lead fields" button, but this AFAIK will have no impact on Marketo mapping, just on the fact that you will keep the data when converting.

Thank you for your response. Going forward, how would i create a Lead and Contact field in Salesforce, but then map them to each  other so that in Marketo I see only one field mapped to both the lead and contact?

Hi Alexis,

Marketo will automatically double-map the fields if they are created with the exact same API name.

If they are not mapped, it is likely there is even a slight difference between the 2. You can ask Support to remap them for you.
