Generally I think marketo is a fantastic product, but the thing I'm finding really lets it down is its speed. Sometimes I do very basic queries and I have to go make a few cups of tea before it has run.

Can I please request that you invest more in your servers and concentrate on getting the speed issue fixed. If you do this, you'll easily have the best product in the market (I've used alot of the others!)

Cheers

Having been around a while, I've seen speed increase and decrease. I am generally pretty happy with the times it takes to run the day to day operations. When you have many Filters (esp clicks links) it can get slower, that's why it's good to be proactive with reporting. Using Static Lists over Smart Lists.

Hi Erik,
Sure I appreciate it won't be an overnight fix, but for instance I'm currently this morning trying to check how many leads will be effected by my smart campaign, and there are 4 criteria in the query (no way to make that smaller) and its been running for about 4 minutes currently and still hasnt finished. With a background in databases and queries, I know this to be very, very slow. Just seems a shame as I really love the rest of the product, think its very intuative, any does nearly everything you want in an 'easy to work out' way.

It's not just smart lists though, data exports - when sometimes you have to see the data in a spreadsheet as its impossible to see or understand the data properly in marketo, again this takes far, far too long, even for small amounts of data.

So really hoping this is being given a priority :)

Hi James,

This is something we're actively working on. There are a lot of things that fall into speed, but it sounds like you're mostly interested in running Smart Lists faster. It is a little more complex than just adding more servers- more about looking at the software itself and designing new ways of doing things. It isn't a small project, but I'm very excited about the current direction this is going.

Also, if you are having trouble with Smart Lists, we often can offer some advice on using Segmentaions or structuring your lists differently to get the best out of the system today. Support is good at that, and I'd be happy to offer suggestions as well.
