Sending emails based on click link and delivered

Hi,

 

I am struggling to create a trigger smart campaign logic, if anyone could help I'd really appreciate it. 

 

I have a list of five emails and want to send them based on when someone clicks on the links in them or if they don't open it I want them to get the next email after a certain wait time. 

 

So it would be like:

If they meet the criteria, they receive the 1st email. Then opens up two paths:

Path 1: a trigger would take place if a link is clicked in email 1  which then leads to a wait time of three days and then sending email 2.  

Path 2: Assuming they received the email 1 and did not click on the links, they should receive email #2 after seven days (email delivered). 

 

And the logic continues with the next 3 emails with different wait times. Does anyone have an idea on how to set this up?

Have to first make sure you understand that “clicks” are not necessarily human actions. Anti-phishing/anti-malware scanners deliberately follow links, which result in Clicked Email activities in Marketo. This happens whether or not a person ever saw, let alone opened, the email.

 

Are you sure that’s the engagement you want to measure, as opposed to, say visiting multiple pages on your website (which won’t be ambiguous as mail scanners only open one page at most)?

Path 1 is easy, right?

Path 2 is different, as "not clicked" is not a trigger action. How about that?

Meaning: When the email is delivered ("received" is not really a Marketo term. Marketo cannot know if the email was actually "received". Let's use "delivered" here - otherwise you might as well use "opened"), a 7 day wait starts. After 7 days the Smart Campaign evaluates if the email was clicked, and if it wasn't it sends email 2.
