Tracking PDF clicks on Marketo landing page

At the moment, a PDF is considered a link when used in the 'clicks link in an email' trigger, however it comes up with an error when trying to use the 'clicks link on a webpage' trigger.

This seems a little silly to me and definitely something Marketo should look into.

Protip: strip the from the PDF link when you put it as the Link in web page.

I have the same situation: we created 6 partner pages that contain 15 links to content each (the url link to pdf's which were uploaded onto Marketo as well as urls to our product pages). We want to track the link performance on these pages - ideally with one report that tracks all the different links, but from researching within the community I understand that this is not possible (unfortunately). I could instead run smart campaigns "clicked link on webpage" and defining the webpage. But here we have a real issue: Marketo simply doesn't seem to find the url selected in "Link name is" nor "Link name contains". There is always an error message in the report that the link could not be found.

How can this be resolved? How to track the performance of the 15 links per landing page? How to measure the success of landing pages if there is no possibility to track link traffic?

Paula, it's not really accurate to say that PDFs do not create Clicks Link on Web Page activities, nor is it true that those clicks can't be used in triggers (e.g. AFAIK this Community Idea is based on faulty findings).

It's true that there are situations* in which not all PDF clicks from the same page view are logged -- though the first click will still be, and the bug can be worked around quite easily. In general you will see PDF click activities in the lead's Activity Log as a matter of course.

What is perhaps happening in your case is you aren't looking for the right link.  Look in the lead's ActLog and see what Munchkin is logging for the hit.  This may not be what you expect, because it is drawn from the href on the A tag.

If you post one of your URLs I can tell you what/how it's being logged.

* @Dan TakehiroMark @Grég @Josh @Edward @Justin Norris you guys know the bug I'm referring to or nah?

Hi Sanford,

Yes, I have observed the fact that the clicks on PDF links are not all tracked properly. But it do not know the origin of it.
