What happens with bouncers in Marketo?

Can someone please explain what happens with bouncers in Marketo? If an email has bounced, how many times will Marketo try to send the email again? When there is a hard bounce, will the email remain in the bounce list forever, or will the lead or email address eventually be deleted?
