Automatic Task Status Change

1) Watch Tasks:
Create a new scenario → Add a Workfront Watch Record module.
Set Record Type = Task, Event = Update, and add filters where Status = Complete and (optionally) Template ID = your project template.

2) Read Completed Tasks:
Use a Read Record module to pull task details if needed.
This gives you a list of all completed tasks created from that template.

3) Find and Update Successor Tasks:
Next, add a Search Records module to find tasks whose Predecessor = ID of the completed task.
Finally, add an Update Record module to change their Status from Planned → In Progress.

In this case I would say you have two options, also I did not develop this it is just an idea so you can decide which one you prefer more.

One way to do this is to search for the task that is the successor and is part of the same project using the following 

so you can get the project ID from the completed task and also get the task number (as in order of the task in the project) and increment by one to fetch the next one.

Other approach is directly fetching all of the project tasks based on the project ID and then finding the next task also based on the task number or even just taking the next array element based on the position of the current task.
