Create a New Proof version for new document version

I am trying to have an automated iterative process for reviewing content:

1. A file is uploaded to a issue and then via WF Fusion, a proof is created.(Working)

2. A new version of the file is uploaded, then via WF Fusion, a new version of the proof is created and linked to the new doc version in the same way it is if done normally via the browser UI.

I can upload the file as a new doc version, I can also upload it directly to proof as a new version of the proof, but I can't the proof version to link to the doc version. Is there a way to use the Document->createProof/createProofREST actions to create a new proof version instead of just a new proof?
