Checkbox display on MAC and Safari

I have a form which includes a few checkbox fields.  All of them are showing as red dashes in Safari on MAC rather than the box shape which displays on all other browsers on PC.  Is there some style I need to add to the page to fix this display? If so can someone provide guidance?

We are using Adobe Experience Manager, Version 6.4.8.0
