Improve speed

Generally I think marketo is a fantastic product, but the thing I'm finding really lets it down is its speed. Sometimes I do very basic queries and I have to go make a few cups of tea before it has run.

Can I please request that you invest more in your servers and concentrate on getting the speed issue fixed. If you do this, you'll easily have the best product in the market (I've used alot of the others!)

Cheers

Hi Erik - thanks for this. I would agree that the speed has definitely improved since I posted this. So thank you for your efforts. James

Hey all,

So, we've invested a ton in this area since 2012- speeding up form submits, Smart Lists, Email and Trigger Throughput, the SFDC sync, the UI, and most recently List Import.

This is an area of continual improvement for us, but I'd love to have a specific conversation about what is and isn't fast enough. So, I'm going to mark this idea as done- done not in the sense that we've done everything, but done in the sense that I think we're on to the next phase.

Post another idea and be specific if there is something you think should be better. I'll be keeping an eye out for 'em.

I can honestly say that the speed has got much better.
We had major issues in the past since we had over 10 million records!

The speed has really improved, also I have stopped users from writing silly smart lists.

Marketo - any news? We're still having serious problems with speeds

At the Marketo Summit 13' it was announced during a keynote that smart list performance will be improved by 20X in some cases.  When is this improvement going to be released?

If Marketo provided users the ability to index certain fields from the admin section could that help increase performance?  I find there are 8-10 fields that we constantly use in our smart list.  If I was designing a MySQL db for internal use I'd probably index those fields.  Seems like it that would be helpful within Marketo as well.

I've had some on and off performance issues as well.

I find that skimming down smart lists with activity/change filters, especially those evaluating large time periods, can increase speeds. Also using operators like "is" instead of "contains" help. If you can utilize segmentation lists in smart campaigns instead of elaborate smart lists that reference each other-- that can help too.

On the flip side, I definitely have had undesirable wait times when trying to export smart lists. I sometimes get stuck in the queue for 20-30 minutes when I'm exporting a very basic smart list.

We recently Archived 2012 Programs and found the Search function to slow down significantly after this change.  Today we un-archived the 2012 Folders and the Search function speed improved significantly.  Marketo has started to purchase more F5 BIG-IP boxes.  This will help with load balancing but I think they need more!!!!!    I realize this is a selfish corporate plug!

Overall - we have seen everything deteroriate from a speed/performance perspective within the last 3-4 months.  Love the technology just need to throw power at it.

I've used Marketo since 2010, and have seen a huge decline in performance.  Right now it is so bad I cannot get any email campaigns ready (dependent upon smart lists with activity filters).
