As an Enterprise Account Executive, I manage my accounts in Salesforce and manage the work related to those accounts in Workfront.I use Workfront to manage 2 things – my existing accounts and my prospect accounts. With existing accounts, there are always things we need to stay on top of from account plans to value pyramids to plans on how we can expand these accounts with Workfront. With a prospect account, there are always tasks and actions to be done to move the prospect forward. Ideally, they will follow a sequence of events from the first conversation to the close of the contract. In order to stay on top of all of these moving parts, Workfront is essential in helping me keep track of these activities. It is also imperative that the professional services (CX) team has what they need in order to successfully implement a new customer. Inside of each customer’s project, the CX team will find recordings of demos, value maps where we have put together processes, as well as the customer’s
Do you ever feel like you spend so much time responding to ad hoc requests, it’s impossible to come up for air to think strategically about longer initiatives? You aren't alone. I’ve heard this referred to as the “tactic treadmill.” It feels impossible to catch up, let alone get ahead, because there's always something urgent that needs your attention. The good news? When teams are empowered to evolve from simply responding to requests, the work they manage can also evolve to be more proactive and strategic in nature. Gartner defines work management as "a set of software products and services that apply workflow structure to the movement of information as well as the interaction of business processes and human worker processes that generate the information.” In other words, work management gives meaningful structure to the work. It’s an ecosystem where the people, process, technology and data are brought together into a framework specific to your business objectives.
As a change manager in tech ops, I use Workfront to create the change calendar and manage the change control process. This is how I manage my day through Workfront - I start each day reviewing the change calendar. The calendar gives me a view of how changes scheduled for the night before went and what changes are scheduled for today. If I see a change in the schedule that looks like it needs attention, the report will take me directly to the change so I can review and decide what next action to take. When employees Slack me for help or if they need to enter a change request, I help them navigate to a new request form in Workfront. We have a highly customized change form so they will only need to enter details relevant to their change. Once the change request is complete, they are able to easily route the request to their manager for approval. When my manager asks how many changes we completed last quarter and how many we’ve done this quarter for an audit, I am able to pull

Did you know? You can change ID numbers to names in reports. Have you ever created a report only to find that one of the columns is displaying what appears to be nonsense information instead of the data you expected? Perhaps, as you look at your project report, you realize that it’s displaying the ID number instead of the names for the project owner and the project owner’s manager. Just a few edits will get both of those columns switched so they display names instead. This week's Workfront Wednesday walks you through these steps, in the context of a project report. Let's walk through this together in a Project Report: Starting from the report itself, go to Report Actions and select Edit.Click the Columns (Views) tab.Start with the project owner’s column in the bottom of the window. You see that the report is using Owner ID. This is why the ID number is displaying in the report instead of the name. Click the column in the preview area to select it. This displays the

In 1981, Jan Carlzon became CEO of the problem-ridden Scandinavian Airlines. At the time, the airline was near the bottom of the list for least punctual airlines in Europe, losing $17 million per year. Remarkably, Carlzon turned the airline around in one
To wrap up the 3-part series on Administrator Essentials, this week’s blog focuses on scale — the desirable outcome for peak optimization. Scalability does not necessarily refer to adding resources or people, it’s about the presence of clear, shared goals across multiple teams and departments with established communication channels and metrics. Detailed below are four recommended action items you should consider to get out of the day-to-day run activities and instead, put the focus on strategic work. GET TOP TO BOTTOM BUY-IN In order to ensure that everyone is engaged, involved, and accepting of this company-wide strategy, you must get buy-in from all parties. This means collaborating across teams, departments and regions so that all processes and key performance indicators (KPIs) are accounted for. Communication should happen early and often so utilize the Announcement Center to send out personalized messages and schedule a meeting with everyone involved to talk st

To highlight and share key data across the organization, from team members to executives, we encourage you to take advantage of three key report features — conditional formatting, running reports with the access rights of another user and automatic report deliveries. As you continue to build on your reporting knowledge, these will be a great addition to your skillset. Let’s start with conditional formatting. Conditional FormattingCharts are not the only way to tell a story or surface important data. Conditional formatting can be applied to single cells or entire rows so that when column rules are met, specific information pops out. Formatting options include text color, text format, text alignment, background color, icons and custom text. To learn how to add column rules to your reports, read through the article, Use Conditional Formatting in Views.Run a Report with the Access Rights of Another UserBy default, users can only see objects in a report that they have permissions
The Connect2Lead blog series quotes researchers and authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner’s definition of leadership as, “the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations.” They later quote Bernard Montgomery, a British military hero, saying leadership is “The capacity and will to rally people to a common purpose together with the character that inspires confidence and builds trust.” Have you ever wondered which community members are leading enterprise work transformation in their organizations and contributing to the overall growth of Workfront One? In this age of digital transformation, an increasing number of employees are finding themselves taking on the role of Project Manager without actually having a background in project management. What used to be a role designed to simply manage projects with clear start and endpoints, now has evolved into a cross-functional role of organizing people and processes while managing resources to produce results for both stakeholders and the company. Because of this, project managers have become more valuable to organizations, and the demand for their skills and strategic roles has grown worldwide. The following best practices provide insight into how to be a successful project manager within Workfront. Organization is keyPrior to launch, a project is simply a mix of data, requests, and unspecified objectives. The role of a project manager is to sift through all the information and establish a clear timeline that is both easily manageable and realistically attainable.Start by creat
Can you believe we are in August? August is always a big month in my house because the kids get back to school. Like many of you, we don’t know what to expect this school year, but I do know we’ll all get through it—what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? In addition to back to school time, this August is a HUGE month for Workfront because we are delivering our 20.3 product release. What does that mean? It means that in addition to a number of enhancements on the core product, we are introducing TWO brand new products to help drive collaboration, gain more visibility, and fundamentally get work done. Enhancements to Workfront’s core product Let’s start with some of the updates we’ve made to Workfront’s core platform: Enterprise controls. A structured approach to group hierarchy allows you to create, manage, and organize all your departments in one instance of Workfront, while remaining flexible enough for those teams to customize and manage the unique way they work,
As a remote employee, each day starts the same way (after the long trek down the stairs to my office). I first open Workfront Home to see what tasks and issues need to be completed “today”, what new updates did I receive and what is in the line-up for the remainder of the week. Then I open Gmail and Slack to evaluate new messages received. Am I being asked to do something?; 1) If yes, and it can be done in less than 2 minutes - I do it, 2) If yes, and it will take longer than 2 minutes to do, it is deferred or delegated. With either it is put into Workfront as a task or issue on an existing project, entered as an ad hoc task, or turned into a new project. Assignments are either self assigned (deferred) or assigned to somebody else (delegated), 3) If no, it is either “filed for later”, or “deleted”. All communications received during the normal work day are evaluated the same way. This is my way to ensure I get all my work in Workfront. I fully believe that work that is not in Workfront
I use Workfront to manage my work and plan my week. Take this morning, for example. After pouring a second cup of coffee and preparing a breakfast sandwich, I roll up to my desk and laptop and turn to Workfront Home and notice the late tasks still remaining after reconciling earlier in the week. I wonder - how did I let that get by me? I’m reminded that any platform is only as good as you commit yourself to it. I send a quick update to the project owner and tackle the next task.Barring my own human failings, Workfront allows me to recover quickly and communicate effectively around the work that I do - and reminds me to stay on top of things.Workfront is essentially my work information resource and planner. I am a Senior Consultant within Workfront’s Professional Services group and much of my time is spent working with customers helping them with Workfront and I take to heart the way I work and use Workfront effectively. I’ve worked with many customers over the years and Workfront helps
