Work management in Workfront is summarized in 4 simple stages — initiate, evaluate, execute and measure. To continue the Workfront is Simple series, this week will focus on additional setup functions, actionable best next steps and recommendations for enterprise work management — including gathering and intake of work requests, tips and tricks for better project management and sample reports to allow for better visibility into all of the above. INITIATE AND EVALUATE WORK REQUESTS Workfront request queues are designed to help you create a single space to gather and manage all work requests, allowing for better planning and fulfillment as well as collaboration across teams and departments. Leveraging request queues to manage demand is a core Workfront Best Practice. To get started, you must first understand how work is coming in. List out the various intake channels — email, Slack, meeting takeaways and desk drive-bys — and then outline, diagram and document your workflo
So you want to get started with Agile. This is no surprise as companies all over the world look to adopt Agile work practices to improve performance and accelerate delivery. After all, there is growing evidence of potentially substantial gains in utilizing an Agile-based operational model. Research from McKinsey indicates that 93% of business units that had fully adopted an agile model before the COVID-19 crisis outperformed units that had not. Given the prospect of such competitive advantage, leaders and people managers such as yourself have been tasked with adopting Agile practices. So by now you’ve read about Agile, studied dozens of blog posts and watched hours of video – but how do you get started? Don’t worry. We got you. You can totally do this. We’ll describe a couple of easy ways to get started. First... Keep in mind the Agile mindset, which re
Workfront is at the heart of what we do every day. Everything we do in professional services, both internal and customer facing, runs through Workfront. Our project managers and consultants use robust templates that direct more than 100,000 hours of consulting effort each year. When a new customer buys Workfront, Fusion, DAM, or any Workfront product requiring services, a Fusion “Salesforce-to-Hub(Workfront)” integration immediately spins up and populates all the information gathered by our sales team into the implementation project and automatically assigns the project manager as the owner of the project. Between the Fusion integration and templates, we save hundreds of hours of project setup each year. Professional services is a major source of revenue for Workfront, contributing to our overall success and profitability. Using Fusion, we’ve integrated Workfront with Netsuite to ensure that our forecasting and revenue recognition is timely and accurate, and that everyone that need
Do you, or your organization have a set of well-defined goals to aid in the maturity of work management, the motivation of your team, operational growth, and overall success? By having a strategic plan and a roadmap to success, you can define desired outcomes and identify a series of best next actions, ensuring that each step, milestone, and overall objective is achieved. This week’s blog will define the four key components of a successful roadmap and provide you with a series of questions to consider, recommendations to take action on, and a sample roadmap worksheet to fill out. BUSINESS OVERVIEW Strategic thinking must take place before a roadmap is created to ensure there is alignment between stakeholders and team members. As you unpack the overall purpose of your organization to fully understand why it exists and define its key objectives, ask yourself the following questions to help with brainstorming: What are your company’s current strategic and ope

The holidays are over and it’s time to hit the ground running. One of the first things you’ll want to do is make sure your strategic goals are set and to paint a clear picture of what winning looks like for the team. The next step involves one of the most important leadership skills–setting the team up for success. Building a successful team can be a challenge. A team brings together a variety of personalities, experiences, opinions, and values. However, a great leader can develop teamwork by ensuring trust, commitment, and by focusing on these key concepts. Communication Whether you work remotely or in an office, good communication is one of the most important factors to the success of your team and the work being done. Workfront provides several communication channels to help you collaborate with others—the update stream, Announcement Center, and integrations with Slack, G-Suite and Outlook. Outside of Workfront, implementing s
Greetings! My name is Heather Foeh and I lead the Customer Marketing team at Adobe Workfront. If you have ever read a success story about a fellow customer, attended a User Group, received our customer newsletter, and more, that is all the work of our team. Our goal is to shine a light on our customers’ success while also making sure you’re communicated with in a timely manner. A few weeks ago, Adobe Workfront proudly celebrated YOU, our customers, in our 11th annual Lion Awards. The Lion Awards honor customers who are achieving positive, measurable results as they transform work management within their organization. This year was a bit different, not just because we were virtual–we've done that before!–but because we held the awards in tandem with the Adobe Experience Maker Awards. The Experience Maker Awards aim to celebrate the exceptional experiences Adobe customers are creating through Adobe Experience Cloud solutions, and we were honored to be part of the joint ce
One of the most important aspects of successfully using software is the maintenance of it. One step further is the inevitable cleanup that must occur when the system has gone through challenging times—this is especially critical when your Workfront system administrators change and too many objects are created without reviewing what already exists with colleagues. This week’s blog focuses on how to review your Workfront instance to find old or outdated items, recommended actions to help keep the system organized, and tips for preventing clutter moving forward. IMPORTANT AREAS FOR CLEANUP If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to cleanup, consider the major areas in Workfront that tend to be the most cluttered—custom forms, templates, projects, and users. Below are some recommendations to help with system organization in each area. Custom Forms— Custom forms are one of the most highly used features in Workfront, as organizations use these to capture specific metrics. If
Last month I shared the importance of setting New Year’s resolutions and goals, and gave some thoughts on a few “work resolutions.” Just like that, in a flash, we’re already a month into the new year. How did that happen?! By now you and your organization will have likely determined your annual and quarterly goals, and cascaded them down to teams and individuals. The question is, how will you know if you are on the right path to achieving your goals throughout this next year? One of my favorite quotes is from Peter Drucker, a management consultant, educator and author, who said “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it.” This rings true in both personal and professional goals. For example, you might have a personal goal to learn a new skill, or get a certification you've always wanted. Using the certification example, there may be some courses you want to take, or incremental learnings you need to acquire before you take the certification exam. You wouldn'

Hi! My name is David Burggraaf and I’m the Chief Technology Officer at Workfront. I’m excited to be sharing some thoughts with you this month on the topic of work automation. Throughout my career, one of the things I have observed is that those that do well, automate. Whether it is engineers or people in finance, marketing, sales, HR, IT, or elsewhere, one of the common traits of the successful is that they automate. So, when a brother of mine asked me how they could be more successful in their career, I said “automate!” Before we dive in, it’s important to set the stage. Nearly every organization struggles with efficiencies on some level. Everyone is trying to get products to market faster while still being innovative. It’s not a surprise when we see that over 40% of employees are spending at least a quarter of their week doing repetitive tasks. A recent CMO Council study noted that $1 trillion is lost by companies every year due to mismanaged tasks, resulting in wasted productivity
I hope April showers have brought you May flowers! It’s been beautiful here in Utah this spring. We recently released the 2021 State of Work Report, our seventh annual study focused on how digital workers view and value work. We originally embarked on a journey in Q1 of 2020 to study how the two largest age cohorts in the workforce—millennials (ages 23-43) and Generation Xers (ages 44-52)—approached work. The data came back just as companies were sending their employees home to work, and provided a pre-pandemic snapshot of work trends. We ran the same study in Q4 of last year and then compared the two data sets, which gave us a view of how Covid-19 changed digital work. The results of the survey are fascinating, and I encourage you to download the report. The study clearly surfaces generational differences in how individuals work, but also shows how the pivot to remote work has changed the way individuals view and complete work. Here are some takeaways I foun
A challenge that many users face is efficiently navigating many tasks, tools and applications on a daily basis. As someone who likely wears multiple hats, you probably know that not all hats can be worn at once. Productivity and output decline when adding more to the mix causing distractions; and your best work cannot be done with laundry lists of to-do’s in different places. Rather than switching context every few minutes to keep track of all of the moving pieces, look to Workfront integrations to do the work for you. ENTERPRISE CHAT TOOLSMicrosoft Teams and Slack dominate the chat tool market and many customers prioritize integrating these with Workfront. By using a chat tool and Workfront together, users can drive efficiency by staying easily connected, avoid duplicate work by having one source of truth, and focus on the task at hand by centralizing communications. Not to mention that improved work management and fewer loose ends as chat conversations are reportable in Workfron
Did you know? You can send custom announcements to the users in your Workfront instance using the Announcement Center! The Announcement Center is accessed through the notification icon, which is right beside your avatar picture in the global navigation bar. If you are a system administrator, you’ve likely noticed you receive messages directly from Workfront. The icon turns blue to let you know you have unread messages. These announcements tell you about release features, upcoming webinars, and planned maintenance within the system, to name a few. Designated system administrators are the only users who receive these announcements from Workfront. However, you can share these messages with your users - whether it be all users, a select group or an individual. You can also send custom messages, with announcements important to your organization's work. Let's walk through this. Click the notifications icon, then click View All Announcements. This opens the announcem
Training > Additional Resources > Training blog > Gain faster collaboration with a custom note report Tired of sifting through project updates and threads to find one you’re looking for? Sometimes that list is like an infinity scroll... it goes on...and on...and on... Here’s a handy report you can create to find what you’re looking for fast! Why you should create a note reportOn a project landing page, you can click “Updates” and see all the notes and threads added by users collaborating on the project. You can also see all “system updates,” such as status and date changes, granting of access rights, document uploads, etc.You can scroll through the list to find the update you want, but the list of updates can get very long and you may find yourself clicking on the Show More Updates button over and over. Plus, if the update you’re looking for is embedded in a thread, you’ll have
Welcome to 2021! Did you know the tradition of celebrating the new year and making resolutions has been around for about 4,000 years? It’s true! It first caught on with the ancient Babylonians who made promises to earn favor of the gods. Babylon aside, did you make any resolutions this year? Most of us typically set personal resolutions, maybe to exercise more or eat healthier foods. Coming out of 2020, I imagine many of our resolutions have changed. I’ve heard people resolve to ‘relearn social cues after a year at home’ or ‘do so much yoga that it actually justifies wearing yoga pants 24/7’ or ‘actually put on a full outfit for Zoom calls’. Sadly, I think all of these apply to me! So you’ve made personal resolutions, but have you made any New Year’s resolutions for work? If you haven’t yet put pen to paper for 2021 work aspirations, we have one for you! Make a plan for getting the very most out of Workfront by migrating your team and organization to the ne

To finalize the 3-part System Administrator series on people, process and technology, this week’s blog will focus on utilizing your technology, from the perspective of administering Workfront. Summarized below are four key areas in which you will want to become technically skilled, based on feedback from others just like you, who’ve not only taken on this role but have created a successful career out of it. Workfront — your technology — is the execution system that allows you to automate and accelerate the people and the process to an optimal pace of delivery and value. As the system administrator, you have the ability to become the master of this segment and will likely be one of the core team members to define the way that it will be best utilized for your organization. SYSTEM CONFIGURATION As you implement or review your current Workfront setup, it is important to identify the principles of your success criteria — mapping your goals, identifying the business processes you w

AEM Unit Testing With Groovy & Spock by Juan Ayala Abstract In my last post, I explored three different ways to use Groovy in our AEM projects. Using Groovy to build OSGi components, servlets and models seemed the most promising. Now I bring you a fourth one that I find as promising. Unit testing with Groovy & Spock. There are a lot of topics here. TDD vs. BDD. JUnit vs. Spock. Groovy vs. Java. My goal here is not to give you a complete analysis. That's up to you based on your team composition and client. I am going to give you some context. Then I will show you is how to set it up in an AEM project and show you a few examples. TDD vs. BDD You can spend some time researching Test Driven Development and Behavior Driven Development. To put it simply TDD is for a small technical audience, such as developers. To test small pieces of code. In AEM this could be a Java Sling model or OSGi service. BDD is for a wider audience outside of the development team. Developers, QA test
